COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This comprehensive course examines scoliosis, kyphosis, and lordosis, with particular emphasis on the complexities of scoliosis. You will develop a deeper understanding that scoliosis, especially the idiopathic form, is not merely an injury or postural concern but a multifaceted condition impacting musculoskeletal health and overall well-being. The curriculum integrates the latest research, clinical perspectives, and practical strategies essential for effective scoliosis management.

Throughout the program, you will examine the role of massage therapy as a valuable component of healthcare for individuals with spinal curvatures. You will learn to identify appropriate situations for referral to a scoliosis specialist and develop skills for effective collaboration in integrated care settings. The curriculum includes:

  • Detailed information on scoliosis, hyperkyphosis, and hyperlordosis.
  • An overview of the various types of scoliosis, including idiopathic, congenital, adult, and neuromuscular forms.
  • A comparison of structural and non-structural approaches to treatment.
  • An exploration of the complementary and independent roles of physical therapy and massage therapy in managing spinal curvatures.
  • Guidance on effective collaboration with both surgical and nonsurgical scoliosis specialists within interdisciplinary teams, including specific considerations for working with patients undergoing complete spinal rod surgery.
  • Introductions to leading practitioners in the field of spinal curvature, encompassing both allopathic and integrative healthcare approaches.

The goal of this course is to equip massage therapists with advanced knowledge, clinical reasoning, and practical skills necessary for effective pain management and rehabilitative support for clients with diverse spinal curvatures. Upon completion, you will be prepared to make a meaningful, positive impact on the quality of life for clients facing these challenges, supporting both their physical and emotional well-being.

Very interesting read, lots of great information to be able to look back on for present/future clients. There are several insights to this disorder that I was unaware of,and I am thankful for the opportunity to have this study readily available. I work with around 10 clients with congenital scoliosis, and some who have the rib arch. Some of my findings in this study were painful to read and see, but it makes it easier to be able to empathize with your people on a different level. Grateful for the research, and other practitioners in other fields that are also nurturing these cases back to a sense of normalcy with pain relief.
