Course Description: This course focuses on scoliosis, kyphosis, and lordosis, with a particular emphasis on scoliosis. It’s important to understand that scoliosis, especially the idiopathic type, is more than just an injury or a postural misalignment. Given this context, how confident are you in your knowledge of scoliosis management?

In this course, participants will learn how massage therapy can be a valuable healthcare option for spinal curvatures, when it is time to refer to a scoliosis specialist, and how to integrate the two. The curriculum includes:

  • Specifics on Scoliosis, Hyperkyphosis, and Hyperlordosis.
  • An overview of different types of scoliosis, including idiopathic, congenital, adult, and neuromuscular.
  • A distinction between structural and non-structural approaches to treatment.
  • An exploration of how physical therapy and massage therapy can work together or be used separately.
  • Guidance on effective collaboration with both surgical and nonsurgical scoliosis specialists at a team level, as well as specifics for working with patients undergoing complete spinal rod surgery.
  • Introductions to leaders in the field of spinal curvature, including both allopathic and alternative/integrative practitioners.

The objective of this course is to equip massage therapists with the knowledge, understanding, and tools necessary to provide pain relief and rehabilitative support for clients with spinal curvatures. By participating, therapists can make a significant contribution to the well-being of clients facing spinal challenges.
